The beliefs behind how we build.
“The measure of good software is not how impressive it looks in a demo. It’s whether it’s still running reliably three years later.” That line shows up elsewhere on this site because it’s the closest thing we have to a thesis. Below is what it actually means in practice: six things we hold ourselves to on every engagement, written down partly so you know what to expect before we start, and partly because it’s easier to keep a promise once it’s in writing.
- 01
Boring is a feature.
The systems we’re proudest of are the ones nobody talks about; they just run. We optimise for the pager not going off at 2am, not for what demos well on a Tuesday afternoon.
- 02
Scope the problem, not the ticket.
A request to add a feature is often a symptom of a process nobody has questioned in years. We ask why before we ask how, even when that takes longer than starting to build.
- 03
Constraints are information, not obstacles.
Procurement cycles, legacy integrations, compliance sign-off, a team that’s never used the tools we’d default to. None of that is a reason to build something that ignores how your organisation actually operates.
- 04
Ownership doesn’t end at go-live.
Launch is the point where most of what we build actually gets tested. We stay accountable for what we ship after the invoice is paid, not just up to the point it gets demoed.
- 05
We hand over systems, not dependencies.
Documentation, a clean handover, no proprietary lock-in dressed up as convenience. If we disappeared tomorrow, your team should still be able to run what we built.
- 06
No is a complete sentence.
If a timeline, budget or approach won’t hold up, we say so before you’ve committed to it: not halfway through, when saying so costs you more.
If any of this doesn’t match what you experience working with us, tell us: it means we got something wrong.

Big platform, small internal tool, or something in between: if it’s worth building, it’s worth building properly. Let’s talk about what that looks like for you.
